Dallas Cowboys Will Pass On PacMan And Stay Cool On Carr

That's the story Jones has been selling in recent weeks - that Romo, who'll be 36 next month - has "four or five years" left in the tank, and that the Cowboys can be competitive in the near term instead of taking several seasons to groom a young replacement.

The Cowboys have the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft and have been linked to Florida State's Jalen Ramsey.

The Cowboys still could be looking for a quarterback they believe can be a successor to Romo in the future, but it will likely be a second pick if not later.

Contrary to the collective thoughts of a slew of mock drafts, the Dallas Cowboys are not in the market for a quarterback with the No. 4 pick in the 2016 National Football League mock draft.

And then there's Jerry Jones, who's glad you asked.

Dallas Cowboys draft rumors have the team not targeting a quarterback in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Previously mentioned by Cowboys' owner Jerry Jones as something to review this offseason, Carr recorded 76 total tackles and did not force a single turnover in 2015-2016.

But if they're picking one this year, it may not be with their first pick.

It's also easy to look at the Cowboys roster, and see more holes that could be filled with the fourth overall pick, which makes such a pick a bit of a luxury in the short-term. He had 10.5 sacks in 2012, 13.0 in 2013 and a career-high 14.5 just two seasons ago.

Still, Jones is gladly opening his book to the other teams in the NFL - Carson Wentz, Jared Goff, Paxton Lynch? Brandt likes Mississippi State's Dak Prescott, Stanford Kevin Hogan, Western Kentucky's Brandon Doughty, Arkansas' Brandon Allen and Louisiana Tech's Jeff Driskel as a possible fit for the Cowboys.

Gil Brandt, the former vice president of the Cowboys turned NFL.com writer, talked to Jones about his quarterback plans, the upcoming NFL Draft and trying to mend Romo for runs at a Lombardi Trophy over the next few years.

The gamble for Jones and the Cowboys is what if one - or all - of the top-three quarterbacks he passed on become stars while his choice is a bust?
