There would not even be any baseball tomorrow after a 4-3 loss and a sweep at the hands of the Cleveland Indians in the American League Division Series.
David Ortiz arrived at Fenway Park early Monday afternoon aware that it might be his last day as a player.
The Red Sox honored David with a special ceremony after his final regular season game with the team on October 2, which included the announcement that they'd be retiring his number, 34, at the start of the 2017 season.
Ortiz's current and former Red Sox teammates, including several from the 2004 World Series team, spoke of his character as a teammate and his contributions to Boston.
Boston Red Sox slugger David Ortiz - affectionately called "Big Papi" by his devoted fans - said his final farewell at Fenway Park on Monday night. Surrounded by photographers, Big Papi made his way out to the mound, where he tipped his cap and acknowledged the thousands of fans still in each section. "It was pretty much the last time as a player (I would) walk in front of a crowd".
Mike Pence encounters resistance in Virginia
It took almost 24 hours before she did but even Trump's wife Melania said she felt offended by the video. Conway said Trump was "channeling the frustration of thousands of voters he hears every day".
"I didn't get it off my back", said Price, who fell to 0-9 in his career in the playoffs as a starter. "I just thought that, for me, John has done a fine job this year", Dombrowski said. Regardless of how you feel about profanity, it was the best thing any one person said at that moment. "I don't know that that hitter exists to be honest with you". Farrell said he'll be open to anything next season, keeping in mind that Ortiz is, essentially, irreplaceable. The Indians went with their closer Allen as David Ortiz came to the plate.
Rookie left-hander Ty Blach was the victor, escaping a 13th-inning jam when pinch hitter David Ross bounced into a double play. I look for a series that anything can happen because these 2 teams are ideal for the ALCS because we haven't had a league championship series that has had everybody undecided on who's going to win.
Ortiz was flanked by photographers and reporters before leaving the stadium for the final time as a player, but his eyes went to the cheering crowd in the stadium - as he raised his Red Sox hat in the air. And so, for me, it's like one of those decisions. there's some decisions you just need to address as quickly as you possibly can because you know how important they are. Clearly David is loved in Boston and in the Major League Baseball, and he'll be missed now that he's retired - but definitely not forgotten! "I mean, I respect that we beat a heck of a team, but to celebrate with our guys, that's what was meaningful to me". We communicate well with one another. The Red Sox trailed by two runs, but with a baserunner on, he represented the tying run.
And Red Sox gloves didn't help the cause in this series.
To spend most of the season as a slightly-above-average team before surging to a division crown in September, was that enough to convince Dombrowski that Farrell deserved to stay? Chicago lead the best-of-five playoff 2-1 and are to send John Lackey to the mound opposite lefty Matt Moore.
