Jose Mourinho cursed his luck after Manchester United were held to a draw by struggling Stoke City despite producing what he described as their best performance of the season so far.
Anthony Martial who came in a substitute gave United the lead but Joe Allen equalised for Stoke after David De Gea spilled Glen Johnson's initial shot.
Manchester United dominated the play, with 67 per cent possession and 20 shots at the goal to seven by Stoke, but one error after the other denied them the full three points.
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho reacts during the English Premier League soccer match between Manchester United and Stoke City at Old Trafford in Manchester, England, Sunday, Oct. 2, 2016.
"To go a goal behind against a team like that and get a point is a tough ask but we did it", said Welsh midfielder Allen. "When you come to Old Trafford, or the Anfields and Stamford Bridges, everybody has to play well, not least your keeper because they will create chances. It was a really good performance, a performance to win by a comfortable score and, in the end, we lose two points".
As we see so often in the Premier League, the drama was still yet to come.

Peres was never naive about that quest, but he understood that security comes from peace with your neighbors, the president said . Israel is now considered the Middle East's sole nuclear power, but it has never declared it, maintaining a policy of ambiguity.
'I am very happy with the performance but when the result should be 5-0 or 6-0 and it is 1-1 the happiness disappears and the frustration with the result comes, ' said Mourinho. "But by magic, they [Stoke] scored a goal, which was very unfair for us".
The report states that despite being relegated to the bench in recent weeks, Rooney will not be stripped as captain of the club.
The Portuguese added: "It was much better than against Leicester (when United won 4-1 last week)". We were just going to kill the game, which we felt we could, and we should.
But Mourinho said: "I never criticise my players for missing chances". We played with creation, had chances and consistency, because we did that for 90 minutes. It was unbelievable we did not win but I can not say too much.
Like Herrera, Rashford was actually one of United's better players on the day, always looked like one to threaten when he got on the ball and ran at Stoke's defence with great pace and movement.
