This was the first major attack on security forces by terrorists after the Indian Army launched surgical strikes on terror launch pads in Pakistan occupied Kashmir last week.
The firing reportedly took place at the BSF Chakri post in Gurdaspur.
Sources at the camp in Janbaazpora area said a gunfight began around 10.30 pm after a guard spotted some men trying to cut open the fence and fired on the intruders.
But what we know is that one BSF jawan was killed while another injured in this "fidayeen" (suicide) style attack on a BSF and adjoining army camps in Baramulla.
Constable Nitin Kumar was killed and Constable Parminder injured when a group of heavily armed guerrillas attacked the camp on Sunday night. "Also, gunfire could be heard from the nearby Border Security Force camp".
The BSF today said the militants, who attacked a joint camp of the force and the army yesterday in north Kashmir's Baramulla district, had plans to carry out Uri-type terror strike on the installation and complimented the personnel for foiling their plans.

The incident that lasted more than two hours had been brought under control and firing had now stopped, the army's northern command and police said.
Pakistani officials would only say that they "befittingly responded to Indian unprovoked firing, " while India has repeatedly presented the militant attacks as the work of the Pakistani government's proxies.
The move followed the deadly attack on one of India's army bases in Kashmir that New Delhi blamed on Pakistan-based militants, triggering a public outcry and demands for military action.
Although the terrorists were pushed back, confusion prevailed whether any one of them was killed in the process. Local reports that two attackers had been killed could not immediately be confirmed.
Relations between India and Pakistan have sharply deteriorated since the attack in Uri earlier this month.
Locals said the army had recently used boats to ferry its soldiers from the new town of Baramulla occasionally to avoid clashing with stone-pelting crowds on three bridges, which connect the old with the new town of the Baramulla.
