Cummings and Trump were supposed to discuss the issue last month, but the president said in a news conference that Cummings had backed out for political reasons.
The meeting comes after a dispute in mid-February in which President Trump claimed that Rep. Cummings canceled a meeting with him because it would be "bad politics".
Cummings and Welch, however, gave a bit more color on the meeting, saying Trump appeared enthusiastic about the draft legislation and that he told Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price to "get it done".
Trump, the release from Cummings' office noted, pledged in December to bring down drug prices, which have skyrocketed in recent years.
"This meeting was first talked about when I ran into the president at his inaugural luncheon", Cummings said.
Unfortunately for pharma, Cummings used the Wednesday meeting to push his plan for Medicare price negotiations.
