Charlie Murphy, the older brother of Eddie Murphy and a comic performer in his own right who acted in movies and turned encounters with celebrities into memorable sketches on "Chappelle's Show", died April 12 in NY.
Murphy lampooned real-life run-ins with stars such as Prince and Rick James in a famed bit called Charlie Murphy's True Hollywood Stories.
Chappelle addressed the audience "Today, I got some bad news", he said.
Chapelle is the latest comic to pay tribute to Murphy. News, he is known for his work on "Chappelle's Show" on comedy Central. He then joined the "Love On The Weekend" singer for a performance of "You're Gonna Live Forever On Me", which reminded him of "my friend Charlie Murphy - our friend Charlie Murphy".
The Daughters hitmaker happened to be performing in Chappelle's home state of OH, and the funnyman chose to join his longtime friend John onstage in Columbus to celebrate his late collaborator's life. "John, if you would, there was a night, maybe four months ago, where we were at Hotel Café in L.A.", Chappelle said.

"Rest in peace, Charlie Murphy", Chappelle said.
He also appeared in "Black Jesus", another of the network's comedy series. Our prayers and condolences go out to the friends and family of Mr. Murphy.
MURPHY: As far as stand-up comedy, I got in the business later than most, yeah.
