The CBI has been conducting searches at 17 locations across the country, including New Delhi, Gurgaon, Chennai and Chidambaram's hometown of Karaikudi, as part of a probe into the alleged criminal misconduct in approval of foreign investments in India.
Chidambaram on Tuesday said he and his son Karti were being targeted to muzzle his voice. "We want to reiterate that neither Chidambaram nor any Congress or opposition leader would be cowed down by fear of vendetta", AICC spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said.
Stating that every case has treated as per the Law, Mr. Chidambaram said: "The government, using the Central Bureau of Investigation and other firms are aiming my son and his friends". A Congress party spokesman called the raids and the investigation "revenge" for Chidambaram's strong words against the current government.
"Information further disclosed that for the services rendered by Karti Chidambram to M/s INX Group through Chess Management Services (P) Ltd in getting issues against INX Group scuttled by influencing the public servants of FIPB unit, consideration in the form of payments were received against invoice raised by INX Media by Advantage Strategic Consulting was with a view to hide the identity of Karti Chidambaram", the FIR said.
The CBI which is also probing the murder of Sheena Bora said that it was collecting details of a Singapore bank account opened in her name.

The Enforcement Directorate is also probing in alleged foreign exchange violations by Vasan Health Care Pvt Ltd, its promoter Karti P Chidambaram and Advantage Strategic Consulting to the tune of Rs 2,307 crore.
A year later, the Income Tax Department got wind of this and sought clarifications from the FIPB, which sent a notice to INX Media seeking its explanation on the issue. "There are allegations of benami deals worth about Rs 1,000 crore and subsequent tax evasion", an IT official claimed.
"When this matter was processed at the FIPB, it was specifically mentioned that for 26 percent downstream investment the matter would require approval of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and a fresh approval and a fresh application would be required for the same", he added.
