Android is the world's most popular mobile platform with more than 1.4 billion active users worldwide. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January that it is developing a concept for running a version of Android in the dashboard.
Android Automotive aims to blend each firm's software with the operating system.
The Google Assistant launched a year ago on Google's Pixel smartphone and began expanding to phones running Android Marshmallow and Nougat back in March.
It will also provide access to the functions of the owner's android handset, like messaging and making calls.
It's tipped that the Google Assistant will be voice-controlled - just like on Android - but that it won't come pre-installed on the phone.

The new systems will be previewed this week at the Google I/O conference in Mountain View, California. Keep in mind the Google Assistant SDK was only opened up to developers last month. "Google's platform and services will enhance the user experience by enabling more personalization possibilities, while Android will offer increased flexibility from a development perspective".
The general idea behind the program is to provide apps like Spotify, Google Maps, and more to the vehicle owner, without the need for the owner to have an Android smartphone. Even more significant, however, is that this marks the search giant branching out from its standard Android Auto offering.
With the system built directly into the vehicle, owners won't need to have their phones connected to make it work. Tesla has already integrated this functionality into the Model S and Model X with an in-house interface, but the system isn't Android-based.
Google is reportedly working on an iOS-compatible Google Assistant app, with the official announcement possibly coming at this week's Google IO 2017 developer's conference, according to Android Police.
