Ashish Dahiya (in pic), a resident of Sonepat in Haryana, was attending a pool side party with friends from the Indian foreign and revenue services at the Foreign Service Institute at Ber Sarai in south Delhi at the time of the incident.
"During the poolside party late in the evening, they made a decision to go for a swim in the club's pool", said Additional DCP, south district, Chinmoy Biswal.
Police said that statements of eye witnesses reveal that while swimming, a lady officer probably had an accidental slip into the pool and many young officers, including the deceased, attempted rescuing her.
Though the lady was safely pulled out, Ashish was found missing. "Soon after, his body was discovered floating in the pool", Additional DCP (South), Chinmoy Biswal was quoted as saying.
According to a News Nation report, a PCR call was received at PS Vasant Vihar during early hours of the morning which claimed that the officer was being taken to hospital.

Before clearing IAS examination, Dahiya was serving as the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Himachal Pradesh.
In a separate message, Mufti also condoled the death of Dahiya and conveyed her sympathies to the bereaved family particularly his wife and prayed for his eternal solace. Kuldeep, who said he was an ace swimmer, found it hard to believe that Dahiya could have drowned.
A 2016 batch IAS officer, who came 53rd in UPSC's all-India ranking, drowned in a swimming pool late Monday night.
Dahiya had to join J&K IMPA Srinagar from Wednesday for institutional training.
The family of the deceased was informed who have reached Delhi.
