Turkish warplanes carried out air strikes against Kurdish militants in northeastern Syria and Iraq's Sinjar region on Tuesday in an unprecedented bombardment of groups linked to the PKK, which is fighting an insurgency against Ankara in Turkey's southeast.
Rockets fired on Friday from an area controlled by the Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units (YPG) in Syria targeted a Turkish army command post in the Ceylanpinar district of Turkey's southern Sanliurfa province.
"We have forces in the entirety of northern Syria, the border is among the area where they operate", said Navy Capt. Jeff Davis, a Pentagon spokesman.
Turkish Armed Forces struck back at positions of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) terrorist group in Northern Syria, Turkey's General Staff said in a message.
The Turkish airstrikes also wounded 18 members of the USA -backed People's Protection Units, or Y.P.G., were criticized by both the US and Russian Federation. He said that the current U.S. deployment was temporary but did not rule out a possibility of it becoming permanent. USA troops have been seen patrolling the tense border since the Turkish strikes.
"This needs to be stopped right now", said Erdogan.
This failure to meet its obligations under Article 3 and 5 calls into question the U.S.' loyalty to NATO's central objective, namely that an armed attack against one North Atlantic Treaty Organisation ally will be considered an attack against them all. The Turkish leader's statement on Sunday follows reports of an increased USA military presence on the Syrian-Turkish border, deployed over the weekend to protect YPG forces, the U.S.'s Syrian-Kurdish allies.

According to Tillerson, Washington and Moscow were working to see if trust could be rebuilt by starting one issue at a time. President Trump and his administration are counting on Branstad to deliver on North Korea, McMullen said.
The area, which includes Arbin, has been held under siege by government forces for more than three years. Ankara said Washington and Moscow had been properly informed in advance.
The United States is apparently in default of its obligations under Articles 3 and 5 of the NATO treaty by supporting the PYD/YPG terrorist groups in the fight against Daesh in war-torn Syria.
Erdogan justifies these illegal attacks with the same baseless claim: that the YPG is the same as the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which is now fighting the government inside Turkey.
Mr Erdogan said the sight of American flags in the convoy alongside YPG insignia had "seriously saddened" Turkey.
Turkey sees both the PKK and ISIS as terrorist organizations, and has made it clear it will oppose, by all means necessary, a PKK-affiliated entity such as the YPG controlling large and expanding swaths of territory on its more than 800-kilometer-long border with Syria.
After the patrolling, the American forces went to the village of Ghanamiyah, south of Darabasiyah, where they were supposed to stay for several days to prepare a report about the situation, according to a source in the YPG.
"The U.S. role has now become more like a buffer force between us and the Turks on all front lines", he said.
Khalil said his forces are not building up in the area and added that the worldwide coalition is now "monitoring" the border.
