Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) has claimed the responsibility for carrying out the attack.
The defence experts on Sunday condoled the death of eight security personnel in Pulwama terror attack and said the Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district has become a hub of terrorism. The fidayeen attack occurred when militants stormed the district police lines in Pulwama in South Kashmir today. The terrorists were cornered soon after the surprise attack and family members of security personnel living within the camp were evacuated.
"Both CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir [personnel] are stationed in police lines", Khan said.
The victims included a policeman, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) head constable, a trooper and a militant.

The injured security personnel were shifted to hospital where a policeman and a CRPF personnel succumbed. However, two special police officers were still missing. Following their entry it took time for police to evacuate people from the buildings inside premises of the police lines. Meanwhile, after the attack, mobile internet services were suspended as a precautionary measure in the region.
He said that 36 families of police were also rescued from the gunfight site. "These were highly trained militants and apparently carried weapons to fire grenades too", said another police official. Lt Gen JS Sandhu, General officer Commanding of Srinagar-based XV Corps, said it is a "fidayeen" (suicide) attack.
Last year, insurgents stormed an Indian army base near the frontier town of Uri, killing 18 soldiers. The militants were killed by the security forces yesterday. As per the latest reports, bodies of 3 terrorists have been recovered.
