With Hurricane Irma just starting to create her path of destruction in the USA, social media users have been left baffled after footage shows the ocean essentially "disappearing". "And they don't know where it went!"
Since the hurricane is so strong and its pressure is very low, it is sucking water from its surroundings and bringing it into the core of the storm.
One Twitter user shared an incredible video of the dry ocean on Saturday afternoon.
"I am in disbelief right now..."
She called it the hurricane "bulge" - where water is drawn into the centre of the storm and the shape of the ocean is changed.
The water is due to return to Long Island on Sunday, she added.
A attractive weekend ahead, tracking Hurricane Irma too
Temperatures will also start to slowly climb each day as warmer air aloft starts to move in and mix down to the surface. In fact, we would not be too surprised if temperatures top out in the low 80s by Tuesday and possibly into Wednesday .
As the wind blew from southeast to northwest on Saturday, the water would be blown away from the shoreline on the northwest side of Long Island.
While some have speculated the disappearing water could indicate an incoming tsunami, that's not the case here. It will probably be back by Sunday afternoon.
Everyone is bracing for the worst with Hurricane Irma, and if we've learned anything from recent storms like Harvey, it's that they can impact the affected areas in unpredictable ways.
