The ballistic missile, which is Iran's third type of missile with a range of 2,000 kilometers along with the Qadr-F and Sejjil ballistic missiles, is capable of carrying multiple warheads.
Iranian media outlets are calling the new missile "long-range" - but by most standards, it would be considered a medium-range ballistic missile.
U.S. President Donald Trump signed in August a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran's controversial ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.
The president has said he's already made a decision about whether or not Iran is in compliance with the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal. "Not much of an agreement we have!"
The US has imposed unilateral sanctions against Iran, saying Tehran's ballistic missile tests violated a United Nations resolution that endorsed the nuclear deal and called on Tehran not to undertake activities related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons.
"We will strengthen not only our missiles but also our air, land and sea forces".
Trump has repeatedly vowed to pull USA backing from the deal; he has also called for including Iran's missile program.

The curfew was announced in statement from the Kurdish-led governorate of the northern Iraqi city. He however said the vote was "not for defining borders or imposing a fait accompli".
President Hassan Rouhani officially marked the beginning of 2017-18 school year by ringing the bell of a school in Tehran on Saturday.
He emphasized that, "like it or not", Tehran will defend "the oppressed people" of Yemen, Syria and Palestine.
Trump called the deal an "embarrassment to the United States" during his Thursday speech before the UN General Assembly, although he again stopped short of vowing to kill it.
The report by the FARS agency says that as "one of the 24 founding members of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space", Iran is "entitled to master the technology of launching satellites into orbit".
"France asks that Iran cease all destabilizing activity in the region", Foreign ministry spokeswoman Agnes Romatet-Espagne said in a statement, according to Reuters.
Iran maintains that testing non-nuclear ballistic missiles is not a violation of the JCPOA.
"Like North Korea, Iran is responding to Trump's bellicosity by its own display of strength, to show it is not cowed", said Mark Fitzpatrick, executive director of the Americas office of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, a British think tank.
"But it is no good talking about this if the USA is not honoring the nuclear agreement", he said.
