Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah said Thursday he met with Syrian President Bashar Assad in person and asked for his help in securing the deal that would help clear the Lebanon-Syria border area.
The criticisms laid bare a widening rift between the US-led coalition battling the IS and the rival coalition fighting the extremists that includes the Shia Hezbollah movement, Syria and the Iranian-backed Shia militias in Iraq.
The US-led coalition issued a statement Friday saying it has sought an unspecified solution that would save the women and children in the convoy from further suffering.
The coalition has vowed to continue monitoring the convoy and disrupting any effort it makes to cross into jihadist territory but said it would not bomb it directly because it contains about 300 civilian family members of the fighters.
Iraq, the Kurdistan Region, and the coalition were not a part of the agreement and all three have objected to allowing the ISIS militants into the Syria-Iraq border region.
Military advances against groups such as the so-called Islamic State group, and the groups formerly known as the al-Nusra Front have led to a shift in attitude toward the government led by Bashar al-Assad from Western powers, Assad said.
