No other Texas universities broke the top 50 of the magazine's influential rankings.
For the 13th consecutive year, Western Illinois University has been recognized as a "Best Midwestern University" by U.S.News and World Report.
Princeton University retained the No. 1 spot on the National Universities list followed by Harvard University, Yale University and University of Chicago (tied for No. 3), and Columbia University, Stanford University, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (tied for No. 5). And while US News & World is not the only college ranking, it is among the most closely watched.

The U.S. News rankings consider institutions' performance on up to 15 measures of academic quality, as well as on how they are perceived by their peers. Luzerne County oldest college and newest university is in a six-way tie for 41 place with 63 overall points. SUNY Geneseo, at No. 11, up three spots from previous year, was the highest ranked Western New York school in the North region. Critics call the rankings too simplistic and say students and school administrators pay too much attention to them.
In the "High School Counselors Top College Picks" category Tulane is ranked 39th. It is UB's highest ranking and the fourth year in a row the university either improved its standing from the previous year or stayed the same. "As we continue to emphasize and value the University's tremendous undergraduate experience, we also are committed to elevating our academic profile and creating a strategic pathway to become a tier-one Christian research university for the benefit of our students, faculty, staff and alumni". The rankings are based on research of more than 1,400 institutions nationally.
Tech was also given the distinction of being named an "A-Plus School for B Students". Ultimately, the weighted values result in an overall score between 0 and 100 for eligible schools, with the top school or schools in each category scoring 100.
