Valve has launched digital gift card functionality in its Steam digital distribution platform, allowing users to send Steam Wallet funds to their friends - though the company warns that existing wallet balances can not be used. The second was to buy a physical Steam gift card from a retail store. As well as the previously-highlighted need for the sender and recipient to have been on each other's friends list for at least three days users can not use existing Steam Wallet funds to purchase a gift card - only freshly-added cash.
The gift cards come just in time for the Halloween Sale on Steam.

Celtics' Hayward likely done for season
Celtics forward Daniel Theis wrote "GH20" on his shoe, and a fair number of Hayward's No. 20 jerseys were visible in the crowd. In all, the Celtics will be able to recoup approximately $11 million of the $29.7 million the team owes Hayward this season.
However, there are a handful of caveats to Steam's new online gift card scheme. If the user accepts the gift, it's added to their Steam library.
Digital Gift Cards can only be given to friends that have been your friend for at least three days.
Money is automatically converted to the user's currency when the transfer completes. The sender selects a set amount from £5 to £100, then the recipient can redeem the value which is then stored on their digital wallet. Now, a user can purchase the game as a gift and give the other user the option to accept or decline the game.
