The Talkeetna Elementary School joined Susitna Valley Junior/ Senior High School for another heart warming Veterans Day Assembly on Wednesday.
The children wore knit hats, mittens and winter jackets as they joined veterans and military personnel in dress uniform at an outdoor ceremony Thursday morning, two days before the actual November 11 federal holiday. "I think that is what makes our Veterans Day assembly so special, because the veterans are actually relatives of our students". "To engage in conversation with them, to recognize them as having been in the military, as having served".
The program was concluded with a special thank you to veterans for their dedication, service, and sacrifice.
"But I think it should remind us of the challenge to end war and find genuine peace", Johnson said.
Groups from the school system participating included music ensembles from Veterans Elementary and the Howard High School JROTC.
The program is for all area veterans of active and reserve military service and their guests.
