The production model of the Generation EQ should look a lot like the concept shown today.
Moving to the other German automaker, Mercedes-Benz seems to have not just brought along a concept vehicle but announced a new brand for its upcoming electric range of vehicles called "EQ". "The emission-free automobile is the future", said Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars.
Automakers at the Paris Motor Show on Thursday unveiled several electric cars with a range of up to 400km, a technological leap created to turn the page on the "dieselgate" scandal that sullied the European industry's image. "Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric, "Generation EQ" is the logical fusion of all four pillars".
The name EQ stands for "Electric Intelligence".
Competition is gearing up in the electric vehicle market, leading electric carmaker Tesla recently announced a battery upgrade that will increase the range of the Model S with Ludicrous mode to 315 miles, and the Model X with Ludicrous mode to 289 miles.

Mercedes executives won't say when the first Mercedes-EQ models will go on sale, but they did say that they expect electric vehicles to make up as much as 20% of Mercedes's worldwide sales by by 2025. The saloons in this EV lineup are expected to be based on the S-Class and the C-Class, whereas the SUVs are expected to be modelled on the GLA and GLC.
Generation EQ is being revealed in Paris this week with the ability to charge inductively (without need for a cable plug-in). Buttons and switches are kept to a minimum, even on the multi-functional steering wheel, in favor of touch controls.
While other manufacturers talk about e-mobility - Mercedes-Benz is already taking actions on its plans and promises to go full steam ahead to transform from a combustion driven company to a major player in the electric market.
It's been widely reported that many automakers are starting to skip big auto shows. Side mirrors are replaced by cameras to view traffic behind the vehicle and project the information onto displays in the doors which are themselves opened with a single touch.
Mercedes will also build charging stations and sell home-chargers and battery packs, says Electrek.
