Samsung stops making Galaxy Note 7s as fresh problems emerge

Stock in the world's biggest smartphone maker tumbled eight percent, sending Seoul stocks sliding 1.2 percent after it told customers to stop using their Galaxy Note 7 devices and called a halt to worldwide sales.
Samsung has started to send return kits to customers who have reached out to the South Korean firm looking to return their Galaxy Note 7 smartphones. The original Note 7 underwent a recall after receiving high reviews and a sudden spate of reports saying that the phone's battery was catching fire.
All of Australia's major telcos - Telstra, Optus and Vodafone - have previously asked customers to return their Galaxy Note7s for either a refund or an exchange to another device.
This follows a handful of reports of overheating and smoking in replacement devices, including one which caused a Southwest Airlines flight at Louisville International Airport to be evacuated on Oct 5. The company made a recall of Note 7 with such batteries on September and continued the sales of smartphone with batteries from a different supplier.
The company issued a statement on Tuesday saying it would be permanently stopping production for the sake of consumer safety.

US mobile carriers, including AT&T and T-Mobile, stopped selling the new Note 7 phones while advising consumers to exchange the phones with other smartphones.
A number of major cellphone companies, including U.S-based AT&T and German rival T-Mobile, unilaterally announced a halt to sales and exchanges of the Galaxy Note 7 on Sunday. "But for Samsung, the same thing happened twice with the same model so there's going to be a considerable loss of consumer faith", said Greg Roh at HMC Investment Securities.
Luckily for local consumers Namibia's tendency to jump on the bandwagon late means the Note 7 has not officially been released in the country.
According to the XDA Developers forum, Samsung's packing instructions say the Note 7 should be put in the static shield bag and then in a box labeled "OEM Replacement" to be put inside an "Inner Box" and a "Recovery Box".
